It's Spring!

So happy that the sun was out today! We took advantage of it and rode our bikes to the park. We chose to ride to a park a little farther away than our usual one. We had to cross more busy rodes but Wyatt did awesome.

Can't tell they're siblings, right?
To get them to pose for the above picture, I told them they could each have a turn taking pictures.
Here's Wyatt's picture:
And here's Eva's:
It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. And we will be spending more like this. Once it's warm enough in the mornings we'll start riding our bikes to and from Wyatt's school, which I'm looking forward to. Bring on the sun!

DIY: Crayons

I was blog browsing the other day and found instructions here to make our own crayons. Such a fun project! And completely kid-friendly. The kids loved it and have already been asking to make more. I think they might have liked making the crayons more than using them. :)

Step 1: Find oven-safe molds. I bought silicone ones from IKEA.

Step 2: Unwrap your crayons. We used 2 boxes of already used crayons but you can use new ones too. The kids loved being able to rip all the wrappers off since they usually get in trouble for doing that. Once all the wrappers are off brake all the crayons into small pieces.
Step 3: Place all the broken crayons into your molds. You can mix and match or just match the crayons. We decided to mix and match ours.
Step 4: Place molds in the oven. I put my molds on a cookie sheet in case they melted over.

Step 5: Wait very patiently for them to melt. About 15 minutes.
Almost done!
The finished crayons! Now let them cool.
And enjoy!

Dessert

We had dessert for family home evening. Danny and I left the kitchen for like 5 minutes, heard the kids laughing and came back to find them like this:

Any guesses on what it was that we actually for dessert? Looks gross in the pictures but it's actually one of my favorite desserts.

What Goes Around

Growing up we always shopped for my mom's gifts with my dad. My mom would make a list of everything she needed (not very often were the items just wants) and we set off to the store. Although I loved going shopping for my mom, I was always a little disappointed by her list. She always had things like socks (in specific colors), a new grill, or new pans on it. Not things that any 10 year old will be excited about giving, so as said 10 year old, I swore that I would never be boring like that when I got older. I would always want to get stuff that was just for me, not for my kitchen that everyone could use. I'm sure I even said something to that effect to my mother.

15 years pass, and I'm now a mother and wife. Every year I make a wish list that Danny can get ideas from for any gift-giving occasion. Yesterday I was updating my list with some new ideas and realized something. What I swore would never happen as actually happened. And not just recently but probably from the day I got married. I now put things on my gift list that are for the kitchen or house. Boring items that might not benefit just myself. Nothing "fun" like new clothes or shoes. For example, here is my current "wish" list (in no certain order):

*cookie scoops in different sizes
*4-slice toaster
*Knife set
*muffin top pan
*KitchenAid pasta attachment
*New utensils (spatula's, ladles, etc)
*glass pans with lids

Notice a trend here? I know, boring and useful. :) So today I added one item that's just for me. A Jane Austin book set, preferably in hard cover. It will probably stay on the bottom of my list for years while I continue to get kitchen supplies or new pillows for my bed. But hey, at least it's on the list now. Funny how, as adults, all those things we swore we'd never do as kids come back to haunt us. Good thing I don't mind turning into my parents. They are pretty awesome.
