Wading Pools

We took the kids to a park in town that has wading pools and fountains today.  We weren't sure the pools would be full so we didn't put them in swimsuits, but that didn't slow either one of them down.  We stayed at the park for at least an hour and both kids were pretty tired on the way home and went to bed early.  My kind of Saturday!

Self-Sufficient

We finally did it!  After years of talking about planting a garden, we actually managed to get it done.  We started work on it over a month ago and finished planting this last Monday. We have tomatoes, bell peppers, pumpkin, squash, zucchini, onions and cucumbers. We had Wyatt help with the planting but he didn't quite seem to understand that it will take time for the plants to grow.  He's been very helpful with watering, and checking and waiting. He's just really excited to get a pumpkin for Halloween. Hopefully he'll forget about the pumpkins soon so that I can stop answering questions every day. :)

Introducing Trixie...

Yes, we got a bunnie.  Isn't she cute?  We picked her up yesterday and Wyatt has been talking about her non-stop.  He even named her all by himself.  We went through a couple names before deciding on Trixie, mostly because Wyatt wanted to give her a boy name.  His first choice was Speed Racer, and then Rex Racer.  But when it told him the bunnie needed a girl name, he chose Trixie.  If you haven't noticed, all the names are from Speed Racer.  We watch a lot of that in our house.  :)  Trixie will actually be living with Grandpa and Grandma O.  They'd like to teach their dogs to be nice to small animals and they already have a fenced of place for her to live and lots and lots of grass for her to eat.  She's just staying with us until next week when they get back from vacation.  If any of you would like to hold a bunnie, come on over!

Summertime...

We figured it was time to set up Eva's pool and see how the kids liked it.  It was a definite hit.  Eva only likes it when it's warm, but Wyatt will be play in it for hours, no matter how cold it is. We've spent every afternoon for the last week in the pool.  Not me of course, but Eva and (mostly) Wyatt and lots of the neighbor kids.  I have a strong feeling that we will be spending the majority of our summer in the pool. Best 10 dollars I've ever spent!

My Kind Of Beach Body

Don't you wish you were this cute in a bathing suit?  I know I do!

I found these on the AllState site and wanted to share.  I already went to the WiseBread site and signed up for a free Elizabeth Berg book.  I'm enjoying that this economy has brought out the frugality in people and because of the internet it can be shared. Love it!

Savin' Dough

Just saw a commercial for this and wanted to pass on the savings.  Go to www.ingoodhands.com, click on the Restaurant.com link on the right side and you can get restaurants certificates for cheap. They have 25 dollars ones for 5 bucks or 10 dollar ones for 3 bucks.  Gloria's is on the list, so if you haven't been there now is your chance!

Interesting Weekend

This last Friday morning, Danny got up 5:30 am, like normal, to go play basketball with his coworkers.  At 7, he called to tell me he'd twisted his ankle.  He said it wasn't bad, just a little swollen and he'd be coming home from work at the normal time.  So imagine my surprise when he limps into the house and asks to ice his VERY swollen ankle.  We propped it up and and iced it off and on all night.  I'm not sure Danny would have even bothered icing it, except that he had a golf tournament on Saturday.  Yes, I know what you are thinking, and I was thinking the same thing.  Golfing 18 holes on a swollen, twisted ankle?  Who would do that?  I wasn't going to argue especially since I figured he wouldn't last long.  Saturday morning, Danny ace-wrapped his ankle tightly and was off.  I picked him up from the course at about 2 and he unwrapped his ankle on the way home and this was what it looked like:
(Following 2 pictures taken about 1 hour after getting home from golfing on Sat.)

(Next 2 pictures taken about 30 minutes ago)

Danny would like me to mention that he did get 2nd place with his team at the golf tournament, so appparently any damage done to the ankle was totally worth it. He'd also like me to point out that if he plays that well with a bum ankle, imagine how he plays with 2 good ankles...

Thursday or 12 months and 1 day

I'm still not sure how I feel about her walking. :) I guess I don't really have any choice now, eh? I just can't believe that she's gotten so big!
p.s. The sound in the background is Wyatt crying because I wouldn't let him sit right in front of the camera.

Wednesday or Eva Turns 1!

Danny took the day off on Wednesday and we took the kids to the zoo for Eva's birthday.  It was a little chilly which turned out great because the zoo wasn't busy at all.  The kids loved it!  Wyatt is still totally scared of the wooden elephant that makes noise, but Eva didn't seem to mind it at all.  We took the kids to the bird show as well. Eva had a hard time sitting still but the show was great. The birds fly so close to your heads and Wyatt was really amazed.

Tuesday

Earlier this week Wyatt and I took a trip up to Herriman and met with a couple of my girlfriends from high school. It's so strange now that we're all grown up, with kids of our own but we can still talk to each other like we could 7 years ago.  Love it!  Aren't we hot?

The Cake

We celebrated Eva's 1st birthday today.  I decided that I was going to make her a giant cupcake for her birthday, but that didn't quite work out so I used the cupcake pan to make her a castle instead.  I spent the better part of yesterday baking, cooling, and cutting cakes. 5 in all.  Surprisingly it was very exhausting!  I got them all frozen and then this morning my mom came over to frost the cake.  I helped with the first layer of frosting but Mom did all the detailed work  and I think it turned out perfect!  It was fun to do it this year, but I think I'll do something a little more simple next year. Thanks for the help, Mom!

Eating the Cake

I was worried that after all the work we put into the cake, Eva wouldn't even be interested.  But I worried for nothing! Her first lick was a little timid, but after that she dug right in.  I think she would have eaten the whole cake if we had let her!
